Softball Recap: Beckman Comes Up Short

Beckman had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-10 to make it nine. They lost 12-6 to the Trabuco Hills Mustangs. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Beckman got a big performance out of Kylie Kim, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Kim has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Hayden Freedman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Trabuco Hills, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

On Trabuco Hills' side, Lena Brunozzi spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kayla Phan, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Brooke Fowler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Looking ahead, Beckman will take on Capistrano Valley at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Trabuco Hills, they will challenge Anaheim at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
