Preview: Fairfield Tigers vs. Wenonah Dragons
After three games on the road, Fairfield is heading back home. They will take on the Wenonah Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Wenonah is ranked 52nd).
Fairfield pushed their score all the way to 65 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 72-65 to John Carroll Catholic.
Meanwhile, Wenonah waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Pinson Valley by a score of 51-41.
Wenonah relied on the efforts of Jakerria Ringstaff, who scored 19 points along with six steals, and Samarian Franklin, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five steals. Franklin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Blanks, who scored ten points.
Fairfield's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-12. As for Wenonah, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Fairfield took a serious blow against Wenonah in their previous meeting last Tuesday, falling 74-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Franklin, who scored 35 points along with six assists and two steals.
