Girard is 2-8 against Hubbard since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Indians will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Girard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.2 runs per game this season.
Girard took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Harding as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Brooklyn Broll made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Broll was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since April 1st.
In other batting news, Girard let Kyra Bell and Gianna Saxon run wild. Bell went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Saxon went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Bell has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylee Wilkes, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Girard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
LaBrae hit Hubbard with a six-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 11-2 to the Vikings. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Layla Songer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. Lauren Komorek was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Girard's record is now 9-7. As for Hubbard, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-6.
Hubbard's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Girard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Hubbard, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Girard's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Girard suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Hubbard when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
