Baseball Game Preview: Walters vs. Sterling Tigers

Walters will head out on the road to take on the Sterling Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Walters has three straight wins, Sterling has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Walters and Frederick had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Walters put the hurt on Frederick with a sharp 11-3 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for Walters, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Caleb Merdan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Axton Ramirez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Thomas, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Sterling's offense. They lost 9-0 to Fletcher on Thursday.

Walters' record now sits at 17-8. As for Sterling, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.

Everything went Walters' way against Sterling when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Walters made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walters since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
