Softball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

Mescalero Apache had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-16 to make it 17. They lost 16-0 to the Lordsburg Mavericks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chiefs of the 17-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Lordsburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Lordsburg's part, Natalie Guerrero was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Guerrero a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dani Esquivel, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lordsburg beat Mescalero Apache by a score of 19-4 later that day.
