Baseball Recap: Nimitz's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak on the Road

The third road game was the charm for Nimitz, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They put the hurt on the Westfield Mustangs with a sharp 9-3 win on Saturday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-5 last Tuesday.

Alberto Cerino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Andrew Curtis was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Andrew Gomez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Nimitz was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Nimitz's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-10. As for Westfield, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nimitz will venture away from home to challenge Benjamin Davis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. We've got a battle between Mustangs coming up. Aldine's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Westfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
