Basketball Game Preview: Crater Comets vs. Churchill Lancers

Crater and Churchill are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Crater Comets will head out to square off against the Churchill Lancers at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Crater has seven straight wins, Churchill has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Crater can't be too worried about heading out to take on Churchill: they just beat Eagle Point at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Crater blew past Eagle Point 76-45 on Tuesday. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 84-23, which was the final score in Churchill's tilt against North Eugene on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Highlanders are ranked 121st).

Churchill's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Crater, their victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1.

Everything came up roses for Crater against Churchill in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured an 84-23 win. Does Crater have another victory up their sleeve, or will Churchill turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
