Preview: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Eaglecrest Raptors

The Cherokee Trail Cougars will be playing at home against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Wednesday, Cherokee Trail faced Grandview in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cherokee Trail walked away with a 52-40 win over Grandview. Winning may never get old, but Cherokee Trail sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Damara Allen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Broadus, who scored five points along with five steals.

Eaglecrest took a 34-point loss the last time they faced off against Overland, but they managed to turn things around on Friday. Eaglecrest narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Overland 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Eaglecrest has posted yet this season.

Eaglecrest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danivea Hughes, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyann Farbes, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Cherokee Trail's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Eaglecrest, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Cherokee Trail beat Eaglecrest 67-60 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Eaglecrest's Nia McKenzie, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Now that she won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Cherokee Trail to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
