Basketball Game Preview: Chesapeake Cougars vs. South River Seahawks

Chesapeake hasn't had much luck against South River recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Chesapeake Cougars will challenge the South River Seahawks.

Chesapeake is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They lost 73-53 to Southern. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cougars have suffered against the Bulldogs since February 6, 2018.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South River). They put the hurt on Severn Run with a sharp 89-67 win on Friday. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Severn Run are ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South River's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.9 points per game. As for Chesapeake, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Chesapeake came up short against South River in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 68-60. Can Chesapeake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
