Basketball Recap: Cesar E. Chavez Lobos vs. Bellaire Cardinals
The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They were dealt a 72-18 defeat at the hands of Bellaire. Cesar E. Chavez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.
Bellaire was led to victory by Sarah Gregory and Tyniah Smith. Gregory scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Smith almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Gregory has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Angelina Turner was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Cesar E. Chavez has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for Bellaire, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-11.
Cesar E. Chavez will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Heights presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Lobos in Texas (the Bulldogs are ranked 665th, while the Lobos are ranked 1462nd). As for Bellaire, they will head out on the road to take on the Texans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lamar is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
