Preview: Catholic Memorial Knights vs. Malden Catholic Lancers
Catholic Memorial has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Malden Catholic Lancers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Catholic Memorial has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Catholic Memorial can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 81-44 victory over Hingham. Given Catholic Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Hingham is ranked 250th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Malden Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell to Millbury 49-45.
Catholic Memorial pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Malden Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Catholic Memorial came out on top in a nail-biter against Malden Catholic when the teams last played last Tuesday, sneaking past 65-62. The rematch might be a little tougher for Catholic Memorial since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
