Basketball Recap: Isaiah Melecio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rampart over Liberty

Rampart was the 84-78 winner over Liberty when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Rampart Rams took a hard 71-57 fall against the Liberty Lancers on Thursday.

Rampart lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Isaiah Melecio, who went 6-for-15 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. He is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 43% in the last five games he's played. Wyatt Kirch was another key player, going 6-for-15 en route to 14 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Liberty was led to victory by Cameron Cunningham and London Praytor. Cunningham dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Praytor dropped a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Cunningham a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Akai Council, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points and six boards.

Rampart's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Liberty, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.

Rampart has already played their next contest, an 83-69 defeat against Doherty on the 8th. As for Liberty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-61 victory against Vista Ridge on the 8th.
