Basketball Recap: Rio Rancho Takes a Loss

On Friday, Rio Rancho faced Volcano Vista in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Rio Rancho Rams were outmatched by the Volcano Vista Hawks and fell 77-32. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

When it comes to explaining why Rio Rancho lost, don't look at Kevin Archuleta. Despite the final result, he posted nine points.

Rio Rancho has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Volcano Vista, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Rio Rancho is taking a road trip to square off against Cibola at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cibola knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Rio Rancho likes a good challenge. As for Volcano Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Farmington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Volcano Vista is on a 19-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Farmington a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
