Baseball Game Preview: North Myrtle Beach Chiefs vs. Socastee Braves

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs will venture away from home to square off against the Socastee Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North Myrtle Beach has four straight victories, Socastee has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, North Myrtle Beach made easy work of Conway and carried off an 8-1 win. The Chiefs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Gabe Kuznik looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on CJ Oxendine, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Campbell Kingston also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Socastee lost 12-1 to Carolina Forest on Friday.

North Myrtle Beach pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Socastee, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Socastee's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Myrtle Beach has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. It's a different story for Socastee, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain North Myrtle Beach's hitters?
