Baseball Game Preview: St. Charles East Fighting Saints vs. Lake Park Lancers

The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will challenge the Lake Park Lancers at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

St. Charles East had taken Neuqua Valley down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Fighting Saints took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

St. Charles East saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Zolna, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Lake Park waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 6-2.

Nathan Bergman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Lake Park is 7-3 when he allows at most two walks, but 12-13 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tommy Pruyn, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Max Alvarado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Lake Park's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-16. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Charles East, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-18 record this season.
