Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Comes Up Short

If Excel Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 51-10 takedown of Winter Haven Christian last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Excel Christian Academy Spartans came up short against the Jordan Christian Prep Seahawks on Monday, falling 66-43. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now lost eight in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Excel Christian Academy lost, don't look at Bianca Berbick. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 19 points and 32 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Berbick a new career-high in points. Kennice Humphries was another key player, putting up six points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Excel Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 43 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Jordan Christian Prep was led to victory by Amelia Williams and Nana John Soumah. Williams dropped a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds, while John Soumah dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. Williams' evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natasha Durand-McClain, who posted six points.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Jordan Christian Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Excel Christian Academy and Jordan Christian Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Excel Christian Academy (ranked 329th) will meet Potter's House Christian (ranked 14th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Jordan Christian Prep will face off against Montverde Academy Gold on Wednesday down 131 places (159 vs. 28).
