Football Recap: Hemphill Hornets vs. Kountze Lions
Hemphill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 42-0 defeat at the hands of the Kountze Lions on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.
Brady Layne threw for 86 yards on six of 25 attempts. Timothy McGehee was his top target, picking up 39 receiving yards. On the ground, Richyon Smith rushed for 38 yards.
Kountze's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dontrell Etienne, who rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. Etienne's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Johnson, who threw for 74 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes.
Hemphill wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 40-6 defeat against Waskom on the 5th. As for Kountze, they have also already played their next contest, a 48-6 victory against West Hardin on the 5th.
