Football Recap: Plainview Pirates vs. Stanton Mustangs

If Plainview was riding high fresh off their 55-34 takedown of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Plainview Pirates lost 48-28 to the Stanton Mustangs on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Mustangs are ranked second).

Karter Lingenfelter rushed for 62 yards and four touchdowns, and also threw for 194 yards on 16 of 28 attempts. Corben Kment was his top target, picking up 70 receiving yards.

It was another big night for Barrett Wilke, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 105 yards and a touchdown on only six passes for Stanton. Wilke's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his 13th straight game with at least 124 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Stanton, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Plainview will host Lutheran-Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lutheran-Northeast is coming into the game with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Plainview will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Stanton, they will head out to take on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stanton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Laurel-Concord-Coleridge likes a good challenge.
