Basketball Recap: Luis Garrido's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Azusa over Sierra Vista

Azusa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 53-45 to the Sierra Vista Dons. The Aztecs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Dons from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Several Aztecs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luis Garrido, who posted seven points along with five rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Garrido is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Noah Garcia was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Sierra Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Buna led the charge by posting 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivan Ingelmo, who put up nine points and four steals.

Azusa's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Sierra Vista, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-10.

Azusa will challenge Garey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Azusa is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season. As for Sierra Vista, they will face off against Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Vista also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 55.5 points per game.
