Preview: Bennett Clippers vs. Decatur Seahawks
Bennett and Decatur are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Bennett Clippers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Decatur Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Bennett's and Queen Anne's County's matchup on Tuesday was close at halftime, but Bennett turned on the heat in the second half with 52 points. Everything went Bennett's way against Queen Anne's County as Bennett made off with a 89-64 victory.
Bennett relied on the efforts of Zakia Smullen, who scored 29 points along with 6 rebounds, and Jace Hudson, who scored 26 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes(charlie) Moss, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Decatur took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday (and then some). They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 84-35 win over North Caroline. With Decatur ahead 46-19 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Decatur's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Davin Chandler, who scored 18 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists. Another player making a difference was Trybe Wise, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds.
Bennett's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Decatur, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 1-0.
Bennett came up short against Decatur in their previous matchup back in January, falling 81-75. Can Bennett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
