Preview: Fitchburg Red Raiders vs. Leominster Blue Devils
Fitchburg is 2-8 against Leominster since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. After each having a week off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:30 p.m. on November 22nd. Fitchburg is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Thursday, Fitchburg had to suffer through a rough 41-14 loss at the hands of Assabet Valley RVT.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last matchup, Leominster made sure to put some points up on the board against Westborough on Friday. Leominster claimed a resounding 47-14 win over Westborough at home.
Leominster relied on the efforts of Xavier Cora, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and Osiris Lopez, who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Cora was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Leominster also got help from Jaidis Delgado who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.
Fitchburg bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.7 points per game. As for Leominster, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Fitchburg was taken down by Leominster 40-8 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Will Fitchburg have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
