Basketball Recap: Durango Comes Up Short

Durango was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Fruita Monument Wildcats and fell 57-22. While losing is never fun, the Demons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Wildcats are ranked 14th).

Fruita Monument's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jhett Wells led the charge by going 5-for-10 on his way to 16 points and three steals. Daniel Thomason was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Durango's loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Fruita Monument, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Durango will face off against Rampart on Friday. Rampart is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.7 points per game this season. As for Fruita Monument, they will host Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
