Baseball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

Heritage extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wakefield Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 on Monday.

Jack Merrell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Heritage is 3-1 when Merrell posts one or more home runs, but 6-10 otherwise.

As for Wakefield, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Wakefield's side, Garrett Ransom tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Ransom has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wakefield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Gross, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Heritage is set to take on their familiar foe Rolesville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Wakefield will challenge rival Knightdale at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
