Softball Recap: Steeleville Finds Home Field Redemption Against New Athens

There's no place like home for Steeleville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against the New Athens Yellow Jackets on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The Warriors were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Yellow Jackets, so the Warriors were just returning the favor.

Corinne Mueller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Zoey Wolf was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base was her first of the season. Reagan Moore was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Steeleville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Athens struck out seven times.

Steeleville's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for New Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Coming up, Steeleville will face off against Elverado at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for New Athens, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Valmeyer at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
