Basketball Recap: Coronado Comes Up Short

Coronado suffered their biggest loss since December 18, 2024 on Monday. They were dealt a 67-27 defeat at the hands of the Bishop Gorman Gaels. The Cougars lost against the Gaels in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 79-60 score last time.

Coronado's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Beranek, who posted six points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Jayliana Glothon, who earned ten points.

Bishop Gorman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaliah Spaight, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Spaight a new career-high in blocks (four). Savannah Searcy was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 boards.

Coronado's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Bishop Gorman, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coronado has already played their next game, a 71-11 victory against Clark on the 21st. As for Bishop Gorman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-21 win against Palo Verde on the 21st.
