Softball Recap: Bernie's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Bernie dropped their record down to 31-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Oak Ridge Blue Jays by a score of 3-2. The Mules were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Jays earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

As for Oak Ridge, they pushed their record up to 25-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Oak Ridge's part, Kaelyn Deckerd spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 18 Ks. Deckerd has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madalyn Schemel, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Madyson Ruehling, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As of now, neither Bernie nor Oak Ridge have any future games scheduled.
