Basketball Game Preview: Big Bend Roadrunners vs. Sierra Blanca Vaqueros

The Big Bend Roadrunners are taking a road trip to challenge the Sierra Blanca Vaqueros at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Bend's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Sierra Blanca's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Last Tuesday, Big Bend was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-43 to Fort Davis. While the Roadrunners didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 14-6 in the first quarter.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Brooke Jenks, who posted 19 points. That was a full 44.2% of Big Bend's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Asa Reed was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Sierra Blanca came up short against Balmorhea on Tuesday and fell 50-38.

Sierra Blanca has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Big Bend, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5.

Big Bend didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Sierra Blanca in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-41 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Big Bend since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
