Basketball Recap: Herscher Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Herscher came tearing into Saturday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 49-39 victory over the Peotone Blue Devils. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 575th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elsie Hoffman had an outrageously good game as she went 6 for 14 on her way to 20 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anistin Hackely, who posted six points and 15 rebounds.

Herscher was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peotone only posted seven assists.

Peotone's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Orzel, who earned ten points. Orzel is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Moe, who had nine points and four steals.

Herscher's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Peotone, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Herscher and Coal City will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Peotone will take on Clifton Central in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Clifton Central will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Peotone surely won't give up without a fight.
