Volleyball Recap: Willard Comes Up Short

After flying high against Parkview on Tuesday, Willard came back down to earth. The Tigers fell just short of the Webb City Cardinals by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

While Willard ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 12 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 15-12.

Taylor Roweton paced Willard's offense, picking up 21 kills. Roweton got some help from Ashlyn Hurd and her 17 assists. Ava Simpson controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Avery Gardener had an outrageously good game for Webb City as she had 39 digs. Those 39 digs gave Gardener a new career-high.

Willard's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7-2. As for Webb City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Willard will face off against Fair Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Webb City, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against St. Mary's-Colgan on the 4th.
