Football Recap: Sonora Raiders vs. Walnut Mustangs
After only eight points in their last contest, Sonora made sure to put some points up on the board against Walnut on Friday. The Sonora Raiders blew past the Walnut Mustangs, posting a 42-6 win on the road.
Anthony Abad went supernova for Sonora, rushing for 195 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per carry. Abad really tore up the turf during one magnificent 88-yard run.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sonora was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 354 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Sonora's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Walnut, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sonora is on the road again on Friday to play Redlands East Valley at 7:00 p.m. Sonora is facing Redlands East Valley at the right time seeing as Redlands East Valley is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Walnut, they will square off against Rowland at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Rowland focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four last Thursday.
