Preview: Mary Persons Bulldogs vs. Cedar Grove Saints
Mary Persons has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Cedar Grove Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
With a playoff game on the line, Mary Persons rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against Crisp County as Mary Persons made off with a 42-20 victory. Considering Mary Persons has won five matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Duke Watson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 238 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Watson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Stewart, who rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Cedar Grove entered their tilt with Bremen with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Cedar Grove claimed a resounding 49-7 victory over Bremen at home. Given Cedar Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Bremen is ranked 178th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mary Persons has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 11-1 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.5 points per game. As for Cedar Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
