Softball Game Preview: Naperville North Huskies vs. Waubonsie Valley Warriors

The Naperville North Huskies will square off against the Waubonsie Valley Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

In Saturday's Canine Competition, Naperville North had to take the L. They fell just short of Batavia by a score of 6-5 on Saturday.

Maddi Larsen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Faelin Bretag, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Waubonsie Valley). They never let Joliet Central get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Warriors with their most commanding win of the season.

Sammy Wiertelak was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dezirae Kelly was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Giavanna Pyle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

Waubonsie Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Naperville North's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Waubonsie Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Naperville North took their victory against Waubonsie Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-1 score. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
