Baseball Recap: Grace Wins Going Away Against Fillmore

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grace). Everything went their way against the Fillmore Flashes on Monday as the Grace Lancers made off with a 21-1 victory. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Flashes recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Dylan Ferguson made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ferguson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.3 runs per game.

In other pitching news, Rudy Gargiulo tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Alex Van was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Barrett, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Grace always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Grace's record now sits at 3-0-1. As for Fillmore, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grace will head out to face off against Oxnard at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Oxnard: 4, Grace: 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Fillmore, they are taking a road trip to challenge Santa Clara at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
