Baseball Game Preview: Paramus Spartans vs. Ramsey Rams

The Paramus Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Ramsey Rams at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Paramus has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Paramus is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Park Ridge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Owls by a score of 4-3.

Ramsey never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Passaic Valley on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Joe Scarnechia tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

Ramsey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Passaic Valley only posted a batting average of .167.

Ramsey is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Paramus, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Paramus suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Ramsey in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
