Recap: Mt. Hope Huskies vs. Ponaganset Chieftains
The Mt. Hope Huskies''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 19-6 to Ponaganset. Mt. Hope lost against Ponaganset in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 35-6 score last time.
Jason Pincince continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ponaganset, rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Pincince's longest rush was for an incredible 94 yards.
Ponaganset's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Donavan Sacchi and his three sacks.
Mt. Hope's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.0 points per game. As for Ponaganset, the victory was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.
Mt. Hope will look to defend their home field on Thursday against West Warwick at 6:00 p.m. As for Ponaganset, they will head out on the road to face off against Rogers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Rogers is ranked 28th, while Ponaganset is ranked 13th).
