Softball Recap: Shadle Park Wins Going Away Against Cheney

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mead, Shadle Park was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 24-5 margin over the Cheney Blackhawks. That looming 24-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Highlanders yet this season.

McKenzie Duncan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Duncan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bethany Rinas was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Abby Smith was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Shadle Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Shadle Park moved to 3-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Cheney, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Shadle Park will host Gonzaga Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Shadle Park is facing Gonzaga Prep at the right time seeing as Gonzaga Prep is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Cheney, they will head out on the road to challenge Mt. Spokane at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Spokane will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Cheney surely won't give up without a fight.
