Softball Recap: Lowellville Rockets vs. McDonald Blue Devils
Lowellville extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They fell 4-1 to the McDonald Blue Devils. If the Rockets were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for McDonald, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
For McDonald's part, Aubrey Evans made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Evans has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Mancini, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Addison Grewell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: McDonald beat Lowellville by a score of 5-1 later that day.
