Softball Recap: Pacifica Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Pacifica's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Vista Murrieta Broncos by a score of 4-2. The contest marked the Mariners' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Pacifica got a good showing from Raquel Pineda, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Pineda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leyla Ayres was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Natalie Pacheco, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Pacifica's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Vista Murrieta, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-2.

Pacifica and Vista Murrieta will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Mariners see the field they'll take on Garden Grove at 3:30 p.m. on March 12. As for Vista Murrieta, their break will end when they face Murrieta Mesa at 3:30 p.m. on March 19.
