Basketball Game Preview: Southwest EC Eagles vs. Brawley Wildcats

Southwest EC hasn't had much luck against Brawley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Southwest EC Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Brawley Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Southwest EC is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.1 points per game this season.

Despite the defeat, Southwest EC saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabriel Gonzales went 8 for 19 to rack up 26 points and four steals. The contest was Gonzales' sixth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Chance Bermudez, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Southwest EC smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Brawley waltzed into their match on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They put the hurt on the Yellow Jackets with a sharp 69-46 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Yellow Jackets since November 21, 2019.

Brawley pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Southwest EC, their loss dropped their record down to 6-19.
