Softball Game Preview: Herron Achaeans vs. Pike Red Devils

The Herron Achaeans are taking a road trip to challenge the Pike Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Herron lost 14-6 to Heritage Christian on Monday. The Achaeans haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Kayla Page made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Evelyn Grimes, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pike was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Ben Davis, falling 22-4.

Bernice Laguerre was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Lauren Geer also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Herron's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Pike, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Pike's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Herron hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Pike, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Herron's hitters?

Herron suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to Pike in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Achaeans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
