Baseball Recap: Freeburg Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Freeburg entered their tilt with Red Bud on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Musketeers 9-1. That's more bragging rights for the Midgets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Freeburg got a great performance from Dane Johnson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Johnson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Midgets are undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Ethan Foster and Sam Rauckman did most of the damage at the plate: Foster went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, while Rauckman went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Foster has posted since back in March of 2024.

Freeburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Freeburg's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-13. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Red Bud, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-8.

Coming up, Freeburg will venture away from home to challenge Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Orphans' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Midgets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Red Bud does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
