Softball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Mills

Mills had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Sequoia on Wednesday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Ravens with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Kalia Woo spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Mills got a massive performance out of Jazzy Maske, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Sydney Wong was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Mills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sequoia only posted an OBP of .320.

The win (which was Mills' eighth in a row) raised their record to 18-3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Sequoia, they moved to 10-8 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mills is set to square off against their familiar foe Menlo-Atherton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings are on an 11-game streak of home wins, the Bears a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, Sequoia will challenge rival Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
