Basketball Recap: Page Takes a Loss

Page lost against Chinle back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Page Sand Devils fell just short of the Chinle Wildcats by a score of 44-42. While losing is never fun, the Sand Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Wildcats are ranked third).

When it comes to explaining why Page lost, don't look at Tayla Franklin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Franklin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Martinez, who posted seven points.

Chinle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Qoah Yazzie, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points and five boards. Yazzie has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Dizhoon White was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Page's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Chinle, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 24-1.

Page didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-38 defeat against Monument Valley on the 30th. Chinle has also already played their next contest, a 55-51 victory against Ganado on the 31st.
