Softball Game Preview: Lafayette Hornets vs. Chiefland Indians

The Lafayette Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Chiefland Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Lafayette nor Chiefland posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Lafayette fell victim to Branford and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 12-0. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Buccaneers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Meanwhile, Chiefland lost 11-1 to Fort White on Tuesday. Chiefland has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chiefland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Weatherford, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Evie Meeks also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Chiefland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Chiefland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lafayette hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Chiefland, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Lafayette's hitters?

Lafayette suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Chiefland when the teams last played back in February. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
