Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Southwest's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Southwest's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Jay Mustangs by a score of 4-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 back in February.

Alex Rico tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, David Samudio was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Romeo Castillo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Southwest is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. As for Jay, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Southwest and Jay will both be playing Southside the next time they take the field. The Dragons will head out to face the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Mustangs will host them at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
