Baseball Recap: Cardinal Newman Takes a Loss

Cardinal Newman fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Windsor on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 2-1. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Jaguars earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Josh Jannicelli was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cardinal Newman saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Wood, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Cardinal Newman has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Windsor, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-6.
