Charlotte Latin has gone 9-1 against Cannon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Charlotte Latin got a great performance from Cooper Holland as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Holland a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hudson Shoup, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Avery Booker was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cannon scored first but ultimately less than Charlotte Latin in their match on Tuesday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 10-3.
Cannon also got a good showing from Thomas Smith, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That one earned run gave Smith a new career-low.
At the plate, Mason Mierzwa made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Jadon Grouse also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Charlotte Latin pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cannon, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Charlotte Latin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
