Basketball Recap: Socorro Drops Highest Score of Season Against Del Valle

Socorro scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 62-55 to the Del Valle Conquistadores. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured ten defeats in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Socorro lost, don't look at Isaias Morales. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 17 on his way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those three steals gave Morales a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Delgado, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Socorro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Leading Del Valle to victory were Byan Mei and Josiah Nunez. Mei went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to six assists and four steals, while Nunez almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Nunez is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Saenz, who posted seven points.

Socorro's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Del Valle, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Socorro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-26 victory against Santa Teresa on the 28th. As for Del Valle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-60 defeat against Bowie on the 28th.
