Baseball Recap: Marysville Starts Season with Win Against Grant

Marysville had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over the Grant Pacers. That's more bragging rights for the Indians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Avery Landrum made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Julien Johnson and Austin Jacobs did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Jacobs got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Devin Lopes, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Grant's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Marysville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 defeat against Liberty Ranch on the 15th. As for Grant, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-1 loss against Destiny Christian Academy on the 20th.
