Basketball Recap: Liberty Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

While Liberty didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They managed a 66-60 victory over the Hillcrest Panthers on Thursday. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Panthers are ranked 581st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hillcrest's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laterrance Potter Jr, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Komarion Callahan, who posted 12 points.

The win made it two in a row for Liberty and bumps their season record up to 13-1. As for Hillcrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Liberty has already played their next match, a 61-55 victory against Coronado on the 27th. As for Hillcrest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-41 win against El Paso on the 27th.
